May 2, 2018
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Our last Parent Teacher Conference (PTC) for 2017-2018 has been scheduled on Wednesday, May 23, 2018. These conferences are different from our PTCs in November and March when all parents are invited to meet with their child’s teacher. The May PTC is for selected parents only on an “as needed” basis. This means that not all parents will be invited to the PTC. If you do not receive a meeting invitation to the May PTC but would like to schedule a meeting with your child’s classroom teacher or cluster teacher, please let your child’s teacher know. In addition to May 23, teachers have Tuesdays from 2:40 – 3:20 p.m. to meet with parents.
All parents are invited to a presentation by Melinda C. Willens, Instructional Lead, Queens North Field Support Center, on the NYC Passport to Social Studies Program. The presentation will take place in the main building gym. There will be two sessions:
Kindergarten to 2nd grade – 5:00 p.m.
3rd, 4th and 5th grade – 6:00 p.m.
The K-12 Social Studies program in New York State schools prepares young people to become responsible citizens.
At this session, families will engage in hands-on tasks, conduct historical investigations, and learn about the Passport to Social Studies curriculum developed by the Department of Education. Additional topics will include:
- Assessment
- Social studies practices and historical thinking skills
- Expectations for students from K-12
- Supporting social studies concepts at home
Follow this link to register for the presentation. Thank you for making 2017-2018 a terrific learning year!!! J
Sincerely,
