A Little About Me

Picture of Myrna Perez Fung, Parent Coordinator, PS 188Q

My name is Myrna Pérez-Fung. I am a mom of two young ladies who attended public school here in Queens. My oldest graduated college and is currently pursuing her career. My youngest is in college. As a native New Yorker, I attended NYC public schools and am a very proud alumna of the High School of Art and Design.

After college I got a job I really loved but it required quite a bit of travel. When my older daughter was born I continued to work but the travel became too difficult. I left my job to stay home with my girls. When my youngest was in Pre-K, I made the decision not to return to my former life and look for something that would give me the flexibility to be home with my girls when they got home from school. I never considered working for the DOE until the parent coordinator at my daughter’s elementary school said this was the job for me and I would love it. She was right. I do love what I do!

As parent coordinator my main purpose is to serve as a readily available resource for parents. If you have a question or a concern, need information on upcoming events, let me know. No question is silly. As parents we don’t have all the answers and it can be really frustrating when you are unsure or don’t know. Even if the question seems like something you should already know, I can tell you from experience there are probably 10 other parents standing right next to you who have the same question but hesitate to ask. Don’t hesitate, ask. If I am unsure of the answer I will find the best possible person to help you out. Not too long ago my husband and I were new at this too. From waving good-bye with tears in our eyes at the door to Pre-K to happy tears at college graduation, we have been there and traveled this wonderful and sometimes rather crazy road with some really awesome family and friends. We helped each other along the way and learned quite a bit in the process. For all those family and friends who were there for me, this is my way of honoring them by paying it forward and helping the families in my school navigate this wonderful and sometimes rather crazy journey.

Please feel free reach out to me anytime. I am located in the main building and my regular hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. You can reach me at 929-600-5683, ext. 1165, or email me at mperez-fung@schools.nyc.gov. If you are in the area and need to talk, drop by. I don’t leave the building very often and the office will know how to find me.

Thanks for stopping by!

Sincerely,

Myrna Pérez-Fung, Parent Coordinator, P.S. 188Q/Annex
