Updates and Reminders for the 1st day of School

Welcome back PS188Q Families!! Below are some reminders and updates for the 1st week of school.

The first day of school is Thursday, September 7th and it is a regular school day for all Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade children. Arrival is 8:00 a.m. Children arriving at 8:10 a.m. or later will be marked late. Dismissal is at 2:20 p.m. Arrival and dismissal were emailed earlier. Pre-K children are on a different schedule the first 2 days. Placement letters for Pre-K children will have more information on the schedule and times. This information is also on the September calendar that went home earlier.

  • For Pre-K and Kindergarten children, class placements will be emailed on Friday, September 1st. Please read the whole email. Dismissal doors for each class will be on the letter.
  • For 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade student, class placements will be emailed on Wednesday, September 6th. Please read the whole email. Dismissal doors for each grade will be on the letter.
  • Pre-K and Kindergarten children go directly to the annex on the first day of school and will enter through the main entrance.
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade children will report to the big school yard to line up with their class on the first day of school only. Beginning on Friday, September 8th, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade children enter through the main entrance and will proceed to the designated area for their class.
  • If your child will be attending an afterschool program, even if they are not beginning on the first day of school, Thursday, September 7th, please send in a note with the name of the organization and the name of the person who will be picking up your child as soon as possible. If you have the information, reply back to this email with the information. Please remind them to bring a valid ID.
  • myschoolapps.com or Family Income Inquiry Form– Please be reminded, completing this online form helps secure funds for our school. All families MUST fill out a form. The school is held responsible for all unreturned forms.
  • Click School Food Menu to see the menus for the this month. Select the Breakfast Express Menu and Pre-K-8 Lunch Menu. These are the menus for the main building.
  • If you have misplaced the supply list, the supply lists are attached to this email. You can also access the supply lists at this link 2023-2024 Supply List. Please follow the dates listed to bring in the supplies. If you bring all the supplies on the first day of school, we will have to ask you to take them home because there is no one to bring it up to the classroom.
  • Monday September 25th, school is closed in observance of Yom Kippur. Children return to school on Tuesday, September 26th. Please make a note of this date.

During the 1st week of September, a copy of the emergency contact form will be sent home again for all families to update or change just in case something changed over the summer. Please return as soon as possible even if nothing has changed.  

Important Reminder – Meet the Teacher

Thursday, September 14th, is the virtual “Meet the Teacher” and 1st Monthly PTA Meeting. The Meet the Teacher” will be held via Zoom from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Come and meet your child’s teacher, get a brief orientation, expectations, and what your child’s day looks like. Teachers will send out invites for “Meet the Teacher” to families the week of September 11th. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Save the Date! The PTA will also be hosting an in-person PTA Meeting on Wednesday, September 20th. Come join us to meet our principal, Mrs. Figueroa, AP, Mrs. Nartowicz and the PTA Executive Board. An invite will go out the 1st week of school. So save the date!
