Dear Parents/Guardians,
It is important that appropriate attire is worn at all times during school hours. Safety is a major concern of all parents and staff. In order to maintain a positive learning environment, it is expected that [school] students dress in a professional manner. We expect PS 188Q students to be dressed appropriately to ensure safety and to keep the focus on teaching and learning. We would like all parents and guardians to remind students of proper dress protocols on campus.
Prohibited forms of dress at PS 188Q include, but are not limited to:
1) Hats or caps (with the exception of headwear worn for religious observance).
2) Clothing that contains references to drugs, alcohol, sex, violence, racism, or gang-affiliation.
3) Clothing that does not provide coverage of torso, undergarments, and private body parts,
including see- through garments of any kind.
4) Flip-flops.
5) Sunglasses while indoors.
Please be advised that the following accessories are not permitted during school hours:
- Pocket chains
- Portable music and entertainment systems, such as iPods, MP3 players, PSP, and Nintendo DS
- Smart watches
- Wheeled book bags
- Cleats
- Large amounts of money
When deciding on footwear, please be reminded that children may be running and playing in the school yard. The more your child’s foot is exposed, the greater risk of injury. In the past, we have seen many children with cuts, bruises, and scrapes on their feet. Please consider having your child wear closed-toe sandals and/or sneakers as an alternative to a more exposed sandal.
Please do not send your child to school with sunglasses. We understand some children have prescription lenses that get darker in the sun. These glasses are permitted because prescription frames are fitted to the child and generally do not fall off. Store bought or non- prescription frames are not fitted and can easily fall off or move. This is a safety hazard when children are running and playing in the school yard.
